Raise your hand if you start each day with a big cup of coffee. Yup, you're in good company. We're big coffee drinkers here and we love visiting our favorite local coffeeshops whenever possible.
Sacramento and the surrounding areas are a great place to be if you're a fan of coffee. Unlike other areas where only popular chains can survive, locals love our locally owned coffeeshops and will not just visit, but become raving ambassadors for their brands. It's not uncommon to see people in the area sporting clothing and carrying tumblers referencing their favorite local roaster.
So, in honor of our thriving coffee community, today we are sharing the must-visit local coffeeshops in the Sacramento and surrounding areas.
1. Temple Coffee:
Born and raised here in Sacramento, Temple Coffee now has 8 locations spanning from Davis to Folsom. Each location has its own unique vibe, but all are designed to get you to stop, sip, and stay for awhile.
Most of the locations are in the Sacramento area, including the beloved Midtown location with its wooden beams in the ceiling and lush outdoor patio.
Many Temple locations have ample seating area for working and all of them feature the hand-crafted beverages they're known for.
If you haven't tried Temple's locally roasted coffee beans, don't hesitate to grab a couple bags. They're some of the best we have ever had. Not sure what to to order? Check out this blog post with the best drinks on the Temple Coffee menu.
Nobody does ambience better than World Traveler Coffee Roasters. With three beautiful locations now in Folsom, Roseville and El Dorado Hills, each one beckons you to grab a Brown Sugar Latte, a house-made blueberry muffin, and sit in one of the comfy booths to get some work done or have a great conversation.
They understand the age of social media, too, and have created little Instagrammable nooks that are perfect for snapping a picture with your favorite coffee. Or, you can even order a coffee flight so you can try out a few and find your own drink.
World Traveler's roasts their own beans at the Roseville location fresh every Monday and locals love stopping by for a drink and their favorite beans for the week.
With three locations, two in Sacramento and one in Folsom, plus licensed coffeehouses in 4 local grocery stores (and the Sacramento airport) Chocolate Fish is another local favorite. Not only do they win the award for coolest name, but they have actually won coffee roasting awards as well.
The Freeport Blvd. location in Sacramento has an interior you just have to go see, with its futuristic design and tons of available seating, but all locations serve Chocolate Fish's own roasts, which you can also bring home with you. Wherever you go, they make a mean mocha and the avocado toast is delicious.
You can even sign up for their classes to learn how to be a master home brewer who can make killer latte art.
4. Pause Coffee:
One of our favorite local shops is Pause Coffee. Their Fair Oaks location is huge and has serious Central Perk vibes with the large, comfy couches and tons of open work space. The design is unique, with the coffee bar in the middle of the room, but it really opens up the space to feel like a cool hangout that serves really good coffee.
The other location is in Rocklin, too, so if you're on the other side of the 50, you can now take a moment, pause, and enjoy some delicious coffee and snacks.
Try to order the Peppermint Bark Mocha or Chai Latte. If you need coffee to go, they are one of the only local places we've seen that will send you home with a cold brew growler.
If that's not reason enough to visit Pause, we're not sure what is.
If you're an old soul, you will fit right in at Old Soul Co. Their four locations are tucked away in old buildings, like an old horse barn, a former storage warehouse, the ground floor of the old Woodruff Hotel, and a bright space on Capital Mall with their artisan crafted custom community tables.
Order online for easy pickup or plan to stay awhile, either way, you'll be coming back after you try the Iced Mocha Nut Macaroon or the new Shaken Vanilla Spiced Turmeric Latte.
Customization options abound, too, with plenty of milk options, including pistachio milk, so talk to your barista and make it your own.
