Once a sleepy suburban town, Folsom is growing fast! While it used to be one of the best kept secrets of the Sacramento area, the word has gotten out now about what a great place this is to live and raise a family, so people are moving here as fast as they can put houses up.
Good news, Folsom has grown responsibly and maintained a lot of what has made it the city residents love so much.
Let's talk about the 10 reasons you'll love moving to Folsom!
1. Folsom is Wholesome:
Folsom has earned its nickname, "Wholesome Folsom" and residents are proud of it! Known to be a wonderful family town, you'll see kids out riding bikes, plenty of parks that are well-maintained, lots of sports teams out playing on the manicured sports fields on weekends and a great combination of shopping and restaurants.
It's one of those places where people love living here and are sad to leave. In fact, you'll often hear long-time Folsom residents raving about what a great town Folsom is.
2. Folsom Offers Plenty To Do:
In addition to being a wholesome place to live, Folsom boasts a lot of great activities! If you have a family, you'll have no problem finding plenty of activities for your kids, such as dance studios, marital arts, golf courses, coding camps, music lessons, and much more, all within a short drive.
And, if you go 30 minutes in any direction, you'll find another great town full of even more opportunities! Nearby suburbs include Fair Oaks, Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Rocklin and even Roseville. Combined, you'll be hard pressed to come up with an activity that you won't be able to find within this 30 minute radius.

3. Folsom Has Beautiful Weather:
Similar to our post on the 21 reasons to move to Sacramento, Folsom enjoys the same gorgeous weather as Sacramento. You'll see news reports of half the country snowed in or dealing with hurricanes and in Folsom, it'll be all blue skies all week.
In fact, you might even hear people complaining that we aren't getting enough rain here! If you're coming from a town buried under snow you have to shovel, this might be music to your ears!
Plus, while it does get hot in the summer and a few weeks will crack the 100 degrees a day mark, you'll find less humidity than places like Texas.
4. Folsom Has a Rich History:
You may not have heard, but Folsom has a rich history - thanks to Johnny Cash's hit song, "Folsom Prison Blues." The song was not written by his own experience, but inspired by an inmate in the Folsom Prison. The prison was built in 1880 and is the second oldest prison in the country and the first to have electricity.
If you're concerned about this, you should take a tour around the area and see where the prison is located. Which brings us to our next point:
5. Folsom Has a Gorgeous Lake:
Lake views and water sports anyone? Get your paddle boating on or relax on the beach right here in Folsom. The glittering blue water of Folsom Lake is a hallmark of this beautiful town and you'll see many people out enjoying the beautiful water on the weekends and every day in the summer.
The lake is easily accessible from a variety of places and allows for all sorts of water sports. Or, you can just enjoy staring out at the expansive blue water from any of the many lookouts available.
6. Folsom Has Great Food:
If you're looking mom and pop restaurants with best in class cuisine, you'll find it in Folsom. If you want your favorite chains, like Chick-Fil-A or Dutch Bros, you'll find that here, too. Want to sit down in a cool restaurant with a total vibe? Yup, you guessed it. We have that, too.

8. Folsom Has Great Schools:
One thing you'll notice in Folsom and surrounding areas is less private school options compared to other cities in California. The reason behind this is simple: the public schools are great and many people take advantage of them!
If you're driving around, make sure to look for Folsom High School, an expansive high school with excellent sports teams, plenty of class options and a diverse body of students.
